Primetime Date with the Dude

December 24, 2010

It seems counter-intuitive to not post something Noel-related with Christmas Eve looming just hours away… but I don’t have anything particularly seasonal to write about.  So I won’t.

Instead, here’s a tidbit of news to look forward to in the surface days of 2011:  Gustavo Dudamel (current conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, charismatic whirlwind, and incumbent classical savior) will be appearing on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Jan.4 to promote LAPO’s “LA Phil Live” series – an undertaking similar in nature to the Metropolitan Opera’s wildly successful HD broadcasts in which the LA Philharmonic will be streaming three of their concerts into over 450 theatres across Canada and the U.S. starting in January.

Read the L.A. Times promo about it here.

If anyone can pull off an appearance on late-night tv to promote classical music with any semblance of cool, “The Dude” can.  His vibrancy and charm effortlessly translates from the podium over the mass media channels without hiccup.  And even if he happens to have an off night, his delicious latino accent alone will make tuning in worth it for me.  So, 2011 is already off to a good start!

Non-Christmas posting aside, I wish you wonderful festivities with at least one person that you love… or at least really like.  Happy holidays!!
