Ragtime Alla Turca

October 2, 2010

Great little gem (one of many) by Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Roe (aka. The Anderson & Roe Piano Duo).

Anderson and Roe’s YouTube notes:  Just as Mozart appropriated the Turkish style into his “Rondo alla turca,” we’ve appropriated the music of Mozart into our own. We’ve titled the piece “Ragtime alla turca” and although it diverts considerably from the notes of Mozart’s rondo, we sought to capture the utter joyousness and virtuosity — and the folksiness and sense of play — of the original work.Venue: The Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox (Spokane, Washington)
Filmed live in concert, May 3, 2009. (We shot the close-ups during our dress rehearsal!)

PS. Sheet music is available on their website for anyone with four hands interested in attempting.

Piece: “Ragtime alla turca” (based on Mozart’s “Rondo alla turca” from his Sonata in A major, K. 331.
Composers: Greg Anderson & Elizabeth Joy Roe
Performers: The Anderson & Roe Piano Duo
