Soul and State

July 5, 2010

Did you hear the one about the queen and the secretary who walked into a concert hall?  Neither had I, but it seems that this July 27 exactly that will be happening at Philadelphia’s ‘Mann Center for the Performing Arts’ when the “Queen of Soul”, Aretha Franklin, and former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice will be double-heading a fundraising concert in support of inner-city youth programs and education initiatives.

These two ladies of state take the stage in what promises to be an eclectic event that will include Rice playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D Minor with the Philadelphia Orchestra (under Rossen Milanov), Franklin singing selections from her new album, ‘A Woman Falling Out of Love’, and joint performances of arias by Handel and Mozart.
